Do you want to maximise the opportunities by making your resume look that little more special?

EMS staff can not create a resume for you. However, EMS do receive a large number of resumes everyday and can help make suggestions which may steer you in the right direction.

Here are some important points to remember when creating your resume:
• Remember employers like an innovative, memorable and professional resume. You want to be remembered for the right reasons not because
• Keep to the facts about your skills and ensure you have the start and leave dates for each position worked. If you have had an employment break state what you were doing at the time (i.e. Travelling, Moving overseas, Giving birth) all these may be important facts to an employer.
• Make copies of any tickets or licenses you have obtained and add them to your submissions.
• Keep your resume type saved in a commonly used format. Remember not all employers will have the most up to date versions of MAC’s or Windows programmes. Try to stick to Word or PDF versions if possible.
• List any comparable skills you have learnt while working (i.e. Negotiation skills, planning, co-ordination, multi-tasking).
• Create a professional email address and voicemail message on your mobile for use while applying for jobs. Employers will notice if you have an unprofessional email address or voicemail when they make contact with you as this makes up their ultimate picture of you as a candidate. It may not affect the outcome of your employment but it gives the employer a good perception of you as a viable employee for their business.
• The most important thing to remember is; would you hire yourself based on every contact you have made with an employer? If this was your business what would you look for in an employee?
